ABOUT MyEO
Malaysian Economics Olympiad (MyEO) represents a significant opportunity for Malaysian students to delve into various aspects of economics, including macroeconomics, finance, microeconomics, entrepreneurship, and investment. This competition is designed for secondary school students aged 13 to 19 as of December 31st in the year of the competition, as well as pre-university students. As an evolution of the Explorer Economics Competition, MyEO serves as a platform for young enthusiasts in economics to showcase their understanding and apply their knowledge in a competitive environment.
SELECTION PROCESS
There will be no registrations open for this competition. This competition is the subsequential to Economics Explorer Competition with medalists (gold, silver & bronze) from Secondary category (age 13 to 19 years old) that fulfill the requirements automatically qualifying.
They will be invited via email after the announcement of the Economics Explorer result. Top performers in MyEO earn the opportunity to attend the National Selection Camp and 5 best participants will then be selected to join the National Training Camp at once to represent Malaysia in the International Economics Olympiad (IEO).
MyEO Format
MyEO comprises Paper 1 and Paper 2.

International Economics Olympiad (IEO)
The International Economics Olympiad (IEO) is an annual competition in economics organized for students at the secondary school level and pre-university students aged 13 to 19 years old on 31st December of the competition year. It is intended to stimulate students interested in economics, business, and finance by way of creative problem-solving. IEO 2023
The IEO 2023, held from July 24 to August 2, embraced a unique hybrid format. They had a physical presence in Volos, Greece, co-hosted by the University of Thessaly (UTH). The mix of in-person and online elements created a dynamic and engaging experience. 32 teams participated online and 14 full teams attended the IEO 2023 in-person venue in Volos, Greece. 1 team, Ghana, has split and attended both online and in person. In total, 47 teams from 47 countries and territories were represented by 223 contestants.
The event covered three main parts: Economics, Finance (Financial Literacy), and a Business Case (Case Study). The Finance task is an online simulation testing contestantsβ skills in making financial decisions and reaching financial and lifetime goals while the Business Case study was prepared by Grant Thornton, Greece, and focused on the concept of a Public Private Partnership between a construction company and the University of Thessaly, Greece. Being the only team part of the IEO, the Business Case study tests contestantsβ abilities in analytical, conceptual, and quantitative thinking as well as their communication and teamwork skills.
Hats off to our medal winners! Your achievements speak volumes, making our country proud. The Malaysian team secured 2 silvers and 3 bronzes at the IEO, and to top it off, they clinched 1st place for the Business Case. Congratulations to them!

IEO 2022
In 2021, 749 students participated in the Kijang Economics Competition. Out of 749 participants, 68 winners from the Upper and Lower Secondary category were chosen to participate in the Malaysian Economics Olympiad (MyEO) 2022. The five top scorers from MyEO 2022 were selected to represent Malaysia at the 5th International Economics Olympiad (IEO) 2022. The event was held virtually by the hosting country China. It is completely organized by SKT Education Group and Xiβan Jiaotong-Liverpool University in China.
The Malaysian team made the country proud by winning 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. IEO was participated in by 201 contestants from 40 countries and territories.
There are 1,193 students participating in the Kijang Economics Competition 2022. 110 top scorers have been invited to participate in the Malaysian Economics Olympiad (MyEO) 2023. It was a one-day contest that covered all economics and financial aspects.
